Instructions for Request for Employee Religious Accommodation


New Mexico State University (NMSU) is dedicated to providing equal opportunities in areas of employment including their right to reasonable religious accommodations may include any adjustments to the work environment that will allow the individual to observe or practice their religion.

NMSU will consider religious accommodation in relation to whether the accommodation will create operational problems or hardships within the affected department. Reasonable accommodations are determined through an interactive process between the employer, NMSU, and facilitated by the Office of Institutional Equity (OIE).

An employee seeking a workplace accommodation based on religion will complete the NMSU Request for Religious Accommodation form and submit the form to OIE.


Step 1

Employee obtains Instructions and Request for Religious Accommodation form from OIE. The employee is responsible for completing and submitting the request form to OIE. (Whenever possible, such request should be made at least thirty (30) calendar days in advance.)

Step 2

OIE will initiate the interactive process and will involve employee, the department, and OIE.

Step 3

Within ten (10) calendar days of receipt of Request for Request for Religious Accommodation form the employee will be notified in writing by the immediate supervisor of the decision on accommodation request. (Extenuating circumstances may extend the time-frame beyond ten (10) calendar days)
